This is the contraption!
Here I practice the ancient craft of lost wax casting.
A model in wax is wrapped in a cocoon.
That goes into the kiln where the wax burns away.
The void is then filled with Bronze.
Snug inside the kiln.
In here the wax burns away leaving a void for the metal
I like to keep as much immediacy in the work as possible, using the wax like clay.
This means every piece is unique.
Here the model is being cocooned, ready for the burnout kiln.
ancient metal working traditions are truly a place where science and magic intersect.
most systems lean toward the scientific
My approach leans into the magical a little more
A peek inside the Burnout Kiln
This is where the bronze is melted.
Much higher temperature needed here!
When the bronze is hot enough I lift the crucible and pour the Liquid Metal into the ready moulds
